Episode 140. Unpacking The Power of True Connection: A Deep Dive With Gary Katz

You’re in for a real treat today, folks, as we take a deep dive into what it means to cultivate true connection with our clients, with our colleagues…

And with ourselves.

I am SO thrilled to share this episode with you, where I had the absolute pleasure of chatting with Gary Katz, founder of the Center for Intimacy Recovery centered in New York City. And let me tell you, this conversation was pure gold.

Gary is a true visionary when it comes to building a thriving group practice AND fostering genuine connection in every aspect of his work – with clients, staff, and even the wider therapy community. We went deep into how he’s built a successful multi-state practice that's all about helping people (and therapists!) feel more connected.

In this episode, you’ll learn:

  • The genius way Gary was able to get clients to commit to group practice (... all while freeing up his own time AND squeezing in some mentoring along the way).
  • Simple yet powerful ways to create a genuine connection with your clients and make them feel truly seen.
  • Creative strategies to combat loneliness as a therapist and build a supportive, connected professional life.

And most important of all, you’ll understand why personal growth and self-intimacy are non-negotiable for a successful and sustainable practice.

Here’s the thing … Being in private practice, being successful at what you do, can be isolating. I’ve met plenty of accomplished leaders who don’t feel like they have ANY trusted relationships they can turn to for support, for guidance, or heck, even for the kick in the pants we all need at times.

So, what’s the solution?? Conscious. Intentional. Connection.

Give this one a listen, guys. Gary has some seriously genius ideas to share with you here (not to mention the most beautiful heart), and I know you will be as inspired by him as I am.

P.S. Okay Wendy - THAT was interesting….! “ If that’s what you find yourself saying as you listen, would you please share a little love with a 5 star review and a few words over on Apple Podcasts or Spotify?

_______________
TODAY’S GUEST

Gary Katz is a psychotherapist and founder of The Center for Intimacy Recovery in New York, which focuses primarily on intimacy and relationships. The practice has grown into a large group practice of 20 therapists, 12 weekly groups (all private pay), now with therapists in 7 or 8 states across the country.

Without a sense of intimacy with oneself, people can’t fully experience intimacy with someone else. Our hearts are fragile so we develop strategies to keep them safe and avoid getting hurt. The Center for Intimacy Recovery helps clients find ways to have the intimacy and connection in life that we are all seeking.
